ELL

 Who do we teach?

The English Language Learning Department at Bradley Elementary School District #61 provides support to students that:

• Speak a language other than English.
• Live in a home where a language other than English is spoken.  This is indicated on the "Home Language Survey" that parents complete when they enroll students.
• Show need for support based on their initial W-APT screener
• Show need for continued support based on their score on the yearly ACCESS for ELLs® Test.

Our District does not have a bilingual program to teach both English and Spanish.  The ELL teachers and teachers' aides assist students in improving their English language skills in Speaking, Listening, Reading, and Writing.

However, we do help keep you informed of what's happening with your students and with the school by translating letters that come home, for parent/teacher conferences, and communicating with parents in Spanish as necessary.

Bradley East

At Bradley East, students that show need on the ELL screener are placed in one of two ELL supported classrooms per grade level. There are not bilingually instructed classes.  However, by having your student in these classes, they will have the most support from the ELL teacher and ELL teacher's aides. Based on need, your child may: be pulled out for small group instruction, receive additional support in the classroom, and /or have their progress monitored yearly with the ACCESS for ELLs test®

Bradley West

At Bradley West, ELL students receive support from the ELL teacher during their block rotations.  This prevents students from missing instructional time in their classroom.  In addition, the ELL aide also provides assistance within the classroom during language arts and math for students with higher need for support.  Students with an ELL indicator who are performing well in the classroom without support will be progress monitored yearly with the ACCESS for ELLs Test®.

Bradley Central

At Bradley Central, ELL students receive support from the ELL teacher during their study hall period. This prevents students from missing instructional time in their other classes.  In addition, the ell teacher and ELL aide provide assistance within the classroom during carious subjects for students with a higher need for support.  Students with an ELL indicator who are performing well in the classroom without support will be progress monitored yearly with the ACCESS for ELLs test®.
