Student Online Personal Protection Act (SOPPA)
Bradley School District 61 takes the privacy of our student's data seriously. This page intends to make it transparent and is working diligently to be compliant with the Student Online Personal Protection Act (SOPPA) when it goes into effect July 1, 2021.
What is SOPPA?
What happens to the student data that we send to a third-party vendor? Information like names, birthdates, etc... may be provided by District 61 to the third party like Google, Renaissance Learning, IXL Math, etc... SOPPA holds these third party companies accountable for what data they collect from our district.
As part of SOPPA, these companies must enter into Data Privacy Agreements (DPA) with each district they work with. These agreements outline what data is stored, how it is protected, what the company can and cannot do with that data, and what they will do in the event of a data breach. In the event of a data breach, the company in question is required to notify District 61 with detials of the breach and what/whose data is compromised. District 61 will notify families in a timely manner if a data breach should occur and include what data was accessed through which company.
