Weather Related Information - January 2022

January 2022

Dear Bradley 61 Parents:

Bradley School District 61 understands that our decision to open or close schools in bad weather has a big effect on our families. It is always a difficult decision whether to send students to school or not during inclement weather. Our top priority is the safety of our students.

Please understand that we make the decision to open or close the schools in bad weather based on a careful consideration of all factors, such as:

  • Temperature and wind chill
  • Information on road conditions
  • Amount of snow and ice accumulated
  • Weather predictions
  • Building and parking lot conditions
  • Communication with other school districts in the area

During periods of heavy snow or freezing temperatures, please listen to the local radio stations, visit our District Facebook page and website as we post updated information through these sources. A School Messenger telephone call or email will also take place with information concerning school closings. If you have not received one of these messages, check with your school to update your information.

These are the stations used by Bradley District No. 61 for official announcements regarding school closings (WKAN 1320 AM, WONU 89.7 FM, WVLI 92.7 FM, and WFAV 95.1 FM. The stations will be notified as early as possible on days when school will be closed.

Also, if weather conditions worsen, we cannot reverse our decision in the morning without endangering students. Once we make the decision to open the schools, many parents rely on this information to plan for the day as they leave for work. If we then send students right back home, many will return to unsupervised bus stops and empty houses.

With weather being unpredictable, it is sometimes necessary to cancel school early. We will make every effort to keep students in school for the remainder of the day, but with safety being out top priority, conditions may dictated the need to have an early dismissal. We will give adequate notice to all parents. Please make sure your contact information is always current.

Please note that if we do have to close school for the day because of weather, we will be using our e-learning plan for that day. It will be an instructional day for our students and count for a full day of attendance. Our e-learning plan can be found on our district webpage.

You can contact the District office at 815-933-3371 if you have questions or need further information.  Thank you for your continued support as we make these difficult decisions.

Sincerely,

Dr. Scott Goselin
